Douglas Coupland: Roots Crest

Douglas Coupland asked us to design a crest that would feature prominently in his collaboration with the Canadian clothing line Roots. The concept of the line was to re-imagine and update the visual language of the Canadian identity. We based the design on the 1970's version of the Ontario provincial coat of arms done by Ernst Barenscher (who coincidentally taught Alex at OCA).

The crest was applied to numerous items of clothing and ephemera such as notebooks, passport slipcovers and laptop cases.
