Nike – MTV ‘plusirun’

A collaboration between Nike, MTV and Helios, this is 2 minute animation follows one of the on-air personalities [Dan Levy] on a trippy run through downtown Toronto.

We shot the footage with a cheap consumer camcorder (a Canon HDV20) mounted on a steadycam rig. One thing we didn’t anticipate was the freak snowstorm that blanketed Toronto with almost a foot of snow the day before the shoot. If you look closely you can see the snowbanks by the side of the road. Props to Dan Levy for running through slush in sub-zero weather for hours without complaining.

After editing the footage we printed out, rotoscoped and hand-painted over 1200 frames over a 3 week period.
